Flower Heaven!

Pinterest

Dear Diary,

I used to be that girl who wouldn’t want flowers – they’re expensive and they’ll go bad in a couple days…and nothing is worse than the smell of bad flower water. Yuck!

But I take it all back! I find that every time I’m in the presence of beautiful blooms, especially the good smelling ones it’s an instant mood boost! You can’t help but smile seeing them. So this year, I plan on having pretty, pretty petals all around my house!

LA FLOWER DISTRICT

We love going downtown and buying our stems at a fraction of the cost with the best selection!

FLOWER ARRANGING 101
4Y5A6992.jpg

1. Your STAPLE. (60% or 45%)

(ie. Roses, Peonies, Tulips, Hydrangeas, Lilies, Poppies, Orchids, etc…)

This should be your inspiration for your bouquet and most prominent in your vase.

2. Your ACCENT (or another STAPLE.)

(accent 30% or another staple 45%)

(ie. Thistle, Wildflowers, Amaranthus, Agonis, Astilbe, Craspedia, Berries, etc…)

This element acts as another pop of color or texture while balancing out the arrangement.

Your FILLER.

(10%)

(ie. greenery/foliage – Eucalyptus, Dusty Miller (as I call it: Lamb’s Ear) Bay leaf, etc…)

By adding foliage you are able to add height, depth and create your desired shape. The neutral color also acts as a way to balance competing colors in the flowers and create unity.4Y5A7019.jpg

Voila! Your beautiful arrangement!

Be creative! Play with the levels and placement until you get your desired look. :)

Oh I love getting flowers! Though, I’m not a huge fan of roses (unless they’re mixed in with others like your bouquet). This seems like a fantastic way to spend an afternoon though, regardless of whether you want the flowers for yourself or even pass them off as gifts afterwards!
